The chance to mingle with so many interesting gardeners is rare, so come out to the farm and learn how to grow food with the forces of nature. Besides learning about CSA's and how healthy farms and community can mutually support each other, a wide variety of other workshops will provide something of interest for everybody. Enjoy the beautiful gardens producing the fruits and vegetables you'll be eating, and learn how to turn worn out farmland into humus rich soil. Best of all, feel the difference wholesome food makes in your own body. Genuine health begins in the soil and we are pleased to offer this opportunity to experience the relationship of soil health and biodynamic food. Biodynamics was initiated in 1924 when Dr. Rudolf Steiner recommended we farm with compost, not artificial fertilizers, because the latter would tend to make our food less nutritious and our thinking and feeling more materialistic. Along with entirely practical methods for integrating soil, plants and animals into a self-sustaining farm individuality, biodynamic gardeners work with the spiritual element by using special homeopathic preparations to create extraordinary compost, high quality produce, and a pleasant farm atmosphere.Workshop Leaders & Lecture Topics (subject to change) ---------------------------------------- ^HTrauger ^HGroh was born in Germany in the 30's, went to Waldorf Schools in the 40's, took over his grandfathers farm and ran it biodynamically in the 50's, and founded a community run farm with friends on "free" land in the 60's. In the mid 80's he moved to New Hampshire and founded one of the first CSA's in America, and co-authored "Farms of Tomorrow" in 1990. Community Supported Agriculture is when a group of people take financial responsibility for a farm in exchange for weekly deliveries of produce. It took a man with incredible vision and a lifetime in biodynamics to bring the CSA movement to life in America. Anyone interested in community or the environment will appreciate what Trauger has done and teaches. ^HJim ^HFulmer, a fruit and herb grower from Oregon, is director of the biodynamic certification program and has been inspecting organic farms for many years. He'll talk on developing the whole farm organism. ^HHarvey ^HLisle, retired soil scientist from Ohio, has been into biodynamics for nearly half a century. He'll give his version of making compost tea with Biodynamic preparations. ^HSteve ^HJohnson, ^HD.^HO. is the director of Foxhollow Clinic in Kentucky. He'll explain the anthroposophical approach to acute and chronic illnesses. Lloyd Nelson grows biodynamic blueberries in North Carolina and is representing JPI at our conference this year. He'll lead a hands on workshop on making barrel compost. ^HEric ^H& ^HCher ^HSmith have a successful CSA downstream from our farm in Bugtussle, Kentucky. These gatherings attract a diverse crowd with many talents to share, such as horticulturists, farmers, alternative health care workers, and organic food devotees. Six homegrown biodynamic meals are included in the conference price. These meals alone are well worth the conference fee - you won't believe the energy this food will give you. Pre-registration is appreciated so that we may plan for meals. You are encouraged to bring seeds for the seed swap, homegrown food for meals, and your crafts and products to sell.
