I got to see the Arc Angels perform at the Oklahoma Blues Festival in Tulsa a few weeks ago. Absolutely great! But here is my dilemna that hopefully someone can help me with. There was a vendor next to the stage selling Arc Angel t-shirts for women baby doll t-shirts that had the cover of the Arc Angels album on them. I bought one for my girl friend, and she absolutely LOVED it. Here's the bad news. Somehow she lost it before we got back to the car. All she talks about is how much she loved that shirt, and how bad she feels that she lost it, and how it was the neatest thing I'd ever bought for her, etc., etc. You get the picture. I want to try and replace it, but I don't have a clue who to contact. Does anybody on this site know who that vendor was, or how I could find one of those shirts? This will make me a real hero, so any help you can give me is MUCH appreciated. JT

I love Bramhall's music and always enjoy the live performances I've seen. How sad, though, last night at J&J's, when DB didn't come on till almost 11 and QUIT at 12:45 with a full house of groovin' people. What is up with that? In a concert hall, okay, but no self-respecting bluesbar would let the band to quit so early. Lots of people don't even GET there till midnight. Big disapointment, I'm sorry to say. It'll be hard to sell another $20 dollar cover for one set of music to me again. Still love the records, CJF

Doyle, I'm 37 years old and have been playing guitar since I was 10. I play the same style you do..left-handed strung right handed. Curious to know how you tune your guitar. Recently listened to your music and I loved it. Your sound is what I've looked for. Hope to hear from you. Charlie -Roanoke, Va.

We saw your supreme performance at Mucky Duck in Houston last weekend and bought your CD Fitchburg Street. I just listened to it the second time, and I can tell it'll be one that'll get worn down, fought over, and played over and over again. When will you be back in Houston and who was the superb slide guitarist? I thought the Mucky Duck was a great place to see you and the band. More, please!

3/10/03 Fans of Doyle Bramhall: Do yourself a favor and if you haven’t already, buy Fitchburg Street today! And better yet, go out and support Doyle and his groovy band on the road. Us Houston folks had the privilege of seeing them this past weekend on Friday and Saturday and WOW! Doyle sounds better than ever and his stellar line-up rocked hard. The band includes: Doyle on drums and vocals, Mike Judge on bass, Dru Webber and Mike Keller on guitars and last but not least, Riley Osbourn on keys. I’m still smilin’ big time! I want MORE!! Doyle, you're the BEST! Austin, here I come! Peace y’all, Kelly D. ;- P.S. - Sweet Barbara Logan mentioned another great review on Fitchburg Street done by The Washington Post so since they don’t archive, I purchased the review today to share with y’all and here ‘tis. March 5, 2003; Page C5 FITCHBURG STREET Doyle Bramhall With his first album in eight years, Doyle Bramhall unleashes a torrent of gutbucket Texas blues the likes of which haven't been heard in such consistency since Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Texas Flood" in 1983. This isn't surprising, since Bramhall wrote the by-now blues standards "Dirty Pool" and "The House Is Rockin'," among others, with Vaughan, his West Dallas boyhood brother in arms. On "Fitchburg Street," Bramhall, who is primarily a drummer, sings in the same greasy baritone familiar to Vaughan fans but without coming off as imitative. He's interpreted a soulful, muscular set of covers, from John Lee Hooker's "Dimples" to O.V. Wright's "I'd Rather Be Blind, Crippled and Crazy" to Roosevelt Jamison's "That's How Strong My Love Is." A total of six electric guitarists sit in with the various band lineups -- including, on three tracks, Bramhall's son, Doyle II, who has also appeared on discs by Eric Clapton, B.B. King and Double Trouble. The son kicks out the jams on Howlin' Wolf's "Forty Four," with Riley Osbourne's plinkety-plinking piano playfully underscoring the riff, and junior offers a dose of gritty psychedelia on Buddy Miles's "Them Changes." Those tracks, along with Robin Syler's slide guitar on Wolf's "Sugar Where'd You Get Your Sugar From," highlight the disc. The only original is "Life by the Drop," written with Barbara Logan and a hit for Vaughan on his posthumous disc, "The Sky Is Crying." Bramhall's version rightly, and poignantly, focuses on the lyrics, which are about a friendship that survives the test of time. -- Buzz McClain To hear a free Sound Bite from this album, call Post-Haste at 202-334-9000 and press 8163. Hello Doyle and Barbara! I just heard from my friend Kelly D. about what an amazing time she had at your show in Houston this past weekend and saw her great post here. I can't wait to catch a live show myself. I'm hoping to see you two at the Continental on Thursday, but I will have to get past the SXSW crowd and stay up extremely late on a school night - I will do my best! I will definitely make it down to Gruene Hall for the April 4th show and catch the upcoming Austin shows, as well. Until then, congratulations on the new cd and I wish you both safe travels and wonderful memories on this new tour. Take care. My best always, Susie P.S. Hello from Van also - we are heading to Switzerland on Saturday - what a wonderful way to spend spring break...

Doyle Bramhall 8/2/03 - Sonoma County Blues Festival! Enjoy it for those of you who get to go and give us a little review too please! Muchas gracias, Kelly D. PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release Re: Sonoma County Blues Festival Contact: Bill Bowker 707 527-9362 Smith & Bowker Productions announce the lineup for the 2003 Sonoma County Blues Festival. Now in it's 24th year, this year's event showcases the blues in its many shapes and forms performed by a wide variety of outstanding practitioners. The festival will be held on the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, 1350 Bennett Valley Road, during the Sonoma County Fair on Saturday, August 2nd from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Redwood Theater. The festival is free with admission to the fair. The lineup is as follows: Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin's All-Star Blues Jam a veteran of Muddy Waters band Bob played with Muddy from 1973 until his death in the early 80's. Margolin's style is a blazing mix of old school Chicago South Side jump blues, and ferocious guitar playing. His non-stop touring schedule keeps him on the road 250 nights a year. His all star revue features R&B artist Nappy Brown, Mookie Brill and drummer Kenny "Beady Eyes" Smith son of legendary drummer Willie "Big Eyes" Smith. Doyle Bramhall's name in Texas music history rates right up there with the likes of Johnny Winter, the Vaughan brothers and ZZ Top as a formidable force that helped shape the merging of rock and blues, Texas Style, in the 70's. Bramhall's groups included Storm, The Chessman and Marc Benno and the Night Crawlers. His songwriting collaborations with Stevie Ray Vaughan have appeared on various Vaughan releases. His production credits include Indigenous and Marcia Ball's "Presumed Innocent", named "Blues Album of the Year", 2002, by the Blues Foundation. His vocal style was copied by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Bramhall's rich, soulful voice, cured in blues, can be heard on his albums, "Bird Nest on the Ground" and the new "Fitchburg Street." It's Doyle's first stop in California in a long time. Come see one of the Lone Star states strongest singers performing with some surprise guests. Deborah Coleman, red hot guitar slinger who electrifies audiences with her impassioned guitar playing and vocal ability. "Coleman is building a reputation as a hot young guitarist on a blues scene where machismo has always been the rule" states Living Blues. Daniel Castro comes out of the Bay Area complete with his Fender Telecaster and backed by one of the hottest bands around. His pure baritone voice and passionate sound brings to mind B.B. King, Albert King and Albert Collins. Daniel's music is exhilarating, emotional and sensual. He's currently working on his second album to join his well received initial release, "No Surrender." Daniel Castro is the most significant artist to emerge on the current blues scene. MoFo Party Band is an energetic quartet of Fresno residents whose dynamic stage presence and strong influences from old-school Chicago blues and West Coast jump is considered to be one of the most original and well received acts on the blues scene today. Their appearance at last year's San Francisco Blues Festival proved to be one of the high spots of Saturday's schedule. Taylor P . Collins, a veteran Bay area performer, is a blues/R&B vocalist who has twice been nominated Best Female Vocalist at the South Bay Blues Awards and won Best New Band at the second South Bay Blues Awards. A confident and warm voiced singer, Collins can effect a Chaka Khan-like soul sound in one song and a throaty blues sound in the next. Her classy stage presence and seven piece band, which includes a four piece rhythm section and a unique all female three piece horn section called The First Ladies of Horn, are drawing attention. Hi Baby.... A friend of mine gave me a tape about two years ago but didnt tell me who it was. I was so blown away and wanted more, but he moved and I had no way of contacting him. Last summer I went to a festival by my house in Ivine California. As I waiting in line at the entrance, I heard your incredible voice and completely freaded out!! Oh my GOD - it cant be...I was standing at the front of the stage looking at the program and just as I found your name, I looked up and that you were looking at ME...!! Heat flash!! "Is this how lovers feel...when they get together..." One of the most memorable and incredible moments of my life. By the way, bad-ass rhythm section, Doyle Anyway, I love your work - I hope you NEVER stop playing, I only wish you would play here in California again. I'm a musician and have all the contacts for The Coach House and Galaxy. If you promise to play one of them - I promise to sell enough tickets to pack the house..... Deal? Either way, you are loved in California!

Happened to catch your performance on Austin City Limits aired Saturday night February 8, 2003. This was my first exposure to your music. I was moved and thought besides your virtuosity, that the band was really groovin.' On top of your more obvious blues roots influences and inspirations Lightning Hopkins is a pretty darn good one!, I thought I detected a bit of a moody Jeff Beck and even Robin Trower via Hendrix aura in your improvisation which was all right by me not to discount your distintive quality in it's own right. Also although I enjoyed all playing, interaction and back up vocals by the members in your band, I was particularly drawn to the rhythmic flow and powerful yet tastefully restrained drumming. Look forward to purchasing your recordings. Thanks. John, Manteca, CA

Hello Brother Doyle, I remember finding an Arc Angel CD in a drawer of an office desk I was buying at a garage sell. Ask the seller, "How Much?", and she said "$80". And I said to myself, "Damn! This has got to be some great music!". Then the lady said, "You mean the CD or the Desk?". I just bought my copy of Smokestack after watching your performance on the Roger Waters "In The Flesh" DVD. I've always been a big Floyd/Gilmour fan, and never thought I'd hear anyone "cut-headz" better than David. But you ROCKED! You are now officially Stantonio's Favorite Guitarist/Vocalist! I wish you continued success and look forward to the next album... And I'll pay $80 for it if I have to! A Fan In Tacoma/WA, S. Bandanez

Hey, I friend of mine from recently sent me a cd from a show he taped in 1992 of the Arc Angels Nashville, TN; 328 Club. It has a nice rendition of Angel and good long version of Dimples on there. It's an audience recording, but the sound is good. He's a big fan, and I don't think he ever intended to circulate it or anything. He's just been sitting on the tape for 10 years, enjoying it. Anyways, I made a copy and meant to drop it off when my wife and I saw Georgia last weekend in Santa Rosa. But, I forgot. Not sure if you're into that kinda thinglistening to your own live shows. However, the copy is still laying around, so if you're interested, drop me a line and I'll mail it out to ya. Thanks, David

I could tell that you came from a blues background. So I looked you up on the internet. I have two question: 1 When will you be touring the Northwest? 2 I love the blues. But will you be doing anymore music with the sound you had on Roger Waters DVD? You have a great sound on that. I did listen to some of your blues also and just loved it. HOpe to see you live sometime soon. God Bless P.S Who were some of your favorite guitar players when you were growing up? doyle, i just want to let you know how much your music means to me! it has helped me through some really hard times. i recently had a bout with depression. when not even family and friends could understand what i was going through, when i couldn't explain how i felt, you would put into beautiful words and harmonys what i couldn't. i didn't feel so alone. even if you hadn't experienced any of the things you wrote about, even if it just so happens that your an amazingly talented songwriter i didn't feel so alone. i felt that someone else understood what i was going through! If it weren't for you and sheryl crow i'd probly still be stuck in my rut! thank you so much. also, i have a cousin who is a huge fan of yours. he is such a gifted guitarist and you are his idol. he is a very complex guy and at times, hard to reach, but your music moves him in a way that leaves him at a loss for words. his 7 month old daughter simone recognizes your music. it is hillarious! the other morning i was holding her and she was just giggling and cooing away then in the living room on the other side of the house joshher dad put your c.d."welcome" on and she stopped everything, got quiet ,and listened. not only that but she would not pay attention to me no matter what i did until we turned off the music! everybody loves your stuff even my dad!also a musician i just wanted to say thank you for sharing your remarkable gift of music with the rest of the world! josh my cousinhas ,and continues to draw inspiration from your work,as do i. when your music is playing ,or when he's playing your music ,or when we're watching "in the flesh" for the millionth time, you send a peace over josh like no one else can. you make him happy and that is the greatest gift anyone could ever give! thank you once again. -emily

Hey All and of cause Mr. Bramhall. I went to see Eric Clapton perform in Copenhagen a year ago! Smokestack was supporting - but the Danish EC-crowd wasn't that thrilled with Doyle's show! I was so ashammed, I went like "Com'om do you think everyone liked EC when he supported god knows who??? Well, here's an apology on behalf of the audience. A little note, I was one of the people clapping and who went out to get Welcome the very next day - I almost dug Dyole more than Eric. Being a guitarist myself I thought DB was great and it totally blew me away. Big Big hurray from Denmark. A remark to your website, could you put some info on your gear on there - like some stories about your guitars, where, when etc. and some stuff about your effects and where they can be heard on your albums!!! Just a sugestion!!!! Thanx and keep up the good work! By the way, any plans opf making a show in the NY-area in midOctober - I'm planing a trip over there and would love to see a show just with DD and Smokestack!!! Regards, Thomas Andersen

Hi Doyle, I just wanted to ask you for a few gigs in Germany. Since I heard you opening one of Eric's concerts last year I'm deeply in love with your music. Your writing, playing and singing has blown me away and gave me new inspiration for my own music. Best wishes, Dominik

IF U like Blues then i strongly suggest that you check out the hot band 'The Voodookings' go to www.voodookings.net and get that cd - it is amazing. A bit like The Fabulous Thunderbirds mixed with The Allman Brothers and the Stevie Ray Vaughn.

1999 is off to a good start! Ringing in the new year at a Doyle Bramhall / Doyle II concert is how to do it! The show was great, and I'm looking forward to many more in '99.
