Doyle Bramhall’s new CD, Fitchburg Street, is the Texas singer/songwriter/drummer’s fond look back at the music that shaped him: soul, blues and rock ‘n’ roll. Fitchburg Street, in tough West Dallas, is where Bramhall began a lifelong career as an eclectic blues-based musician. He literally cut his teeth on such songs as John Lee Hooker’s Dimples, Howlin' Wolf’s Fourty Four and Jimmy Reed’s Baby What You Want Me To Do, all of which are included on the new CD. Also on the new CD is his deeply soulful version of O.V. Wright’s Blind, Crippled and Crazy and a psychedelic hard rock take on the Buddy Miles classic Changes. As a songwriter, Doyle was instrumental in stretching the scope of modern blues through his collaborations with Stevie Ray Vaughan on such songs as Change It, House Is Rockin’ and Dirty Pool. Fitchburg Street also includes Doyle's original version of "Life By The Drop." Co-written with Barbara Logan, "Drop" first appeared on Stevie Ray Vaughan's CD The Sky Is Crying and was named the 1991-92 Song Of The Year at the prestigious Austin Music Awards. Bramhall’s last CD, Bird Nest On The Ground, was a fantastic piece of American music and garnered Doyle some long overdue national attention. Bird Nest featured his soulful, easygoing baritone, his effortless blend of both period covers and his own trad-conscious originals, as well as his straightforward drumming style. Since that release, Bramhall has been busy working as a producer with such young blues/rock artists as Austin's Chris Duarte and the Native American band Indigenous. He also produced Marcia Ball’s Presumed Innocent, named Blues Album of the Year by The Blues Foundation at the 2002 W.C. Handy Awards Show. Bramhall plans to follow the release of Fitchburg Street with a national tour that will include festivals and headline club appearances. Working with Doyle to finish the recordings in Austin were celebrated bassist Roscoe Beck and ASM Studio owner/engineer, Dave Sebree. Doyle then traveled to Portland, Maine, where the legendary Bob Ludwig mastered the recordings-And they sound great!
